The original 1885 design - never bettered

Mason Pearson was an engineer and inventor working in Northern England in the mid 1860s. In 1885 he invented an automatic brush-boring machine which won him awards. The tecnhnique was improved in 1905, but his signature rubber-cushion hairbrush developed over a century ago is still considered to be one of the best brushes available today.
